Bang For Your Buck

The ATH-M50X are still one of the best headphones you can get for your money. The sound quality and solid build on this headphone is comparable to (if not better than) headphones that cost twice as much. They’re also covered in a soft leather that makes them very comfortable to wear for long periods of time.

How is the audio signature different than the ATH-M50S?

It is no different; the only real difference is the padding, and detachable cables. There are also tiny changes on the treble around 10k Hz based on previous feedback by customers.

Headband feels tight. How far can I stretch the headband without it snapping?

These headphones uses a metal band. It does not snap. Instead it simply bends. A normal basketball can be used to help loosen the clamp force of the headphones. Just place a small towel over the ball and outfit the ball with the headphones. Simply keep on doing this until you reach a comfortable fit.

This model has no battery. Does it tend to drain the battery of your iPod / iPhone rapidly, to run its processor?

Headphones don’t drain batteries. Just plug and play.

The Verdict

The ATH-M50x headphones are perhaps the best headphone you can buy for under $200.  The sound quality is extremely good across the audio spectrum, with full natural dynamic range, and no audible distortion. It sounds amazingly clear, similar to one might experience in a front row seat at a live venue. The ATH-M50x is a top choice for studio tracking and mixing, as well as DJ monitoring and personal listening.
